National Signing Day goes over the top

It's official. National Signing Day became over the top spectacle. First with a player committing to Texas AM after his mother forged his signature and faxed the letter to Ole Miss. Now we have a player live on camera with help of ESPN decide publicize his commitment to a college as you can see with this video:




Just like LeBron James except this is a high school kid. I remember when it was low-key and only time media talks about high school athletes making college commitments was on local/state news. Now its a nationwide phenomenal with ESPN spearheading thanks to their top 150 high school recruited football players. It turn into a big game of major colleges trying to get a player signed to their school. Now the announcement of college signings have gone over to top with ESPN sticking their cameras live on the player on which college the athlete chooses. It puts more pressure on the high school athlete who already have enough trouble which school to go. One "wrong" choice will get a backlash from a college fanbase and next thing you know a likely attempt to find a paper trail trying claim a college paid money for a player to come. Another thing how many of these top 150 recruited football players did turn out so well to play in the pros few years down the road? For one more over the top signing day moment:

ESPN hypes the next big thing and fails

ESPN hyped up their Breeder's Cup Classic coverage on a horse name Zenyatta who was going into the race 19-0 with a potential of winning and going undefeated. ESPN hyped it up on their programming especially Sportscenter with numerous clips and segments on Zenyatta. Then came the Breeder's Cup race featuring Zenyatta. Zenyatta finished the race...BUT IT WASN'T IN FIRST PLACE. Zenyatta finished in 2nd place behind Blame who took the victory denying the Zenyatta undefeated record. After all the hype its falls flat on ESPN face. Great hype job ESPN! Maybe you should hype up the Yankees winning the World Series next year already.

Why is this sport news?

Has the mighty ESPN fallen? They have gone downhill in reporting big time with bias idiots (hello Stephen A. Smith) running Sportscenter. What was big news on ESPN.com? It wasn't US team come behind win against Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic or Martin Broduer becoming NHL all-time winning goalie. The biggest news report on ESPN.com is president's college basketball tournament picks. Honestly why is this even sport news at all? You have two real-time classics but get pushed as second fiddle to a fan's college basketball picks as the big news. Is this even sport news at all? No its not. It's just fan opinion on who will be college basketball champs just like other hundred thousands who submitted their picks but will not hear a peep from. I wish there was alternative to ESPN especially on TV. There are days I rather skip watching Sportscenter.
